Isaacnathanielxx releases “Rot”, a beautiful and dark tone shift from Tangerine. Coming off his debut album, Tangerine, Isaacnathanielxx completely switches directions in how he approaches this song and maybe future projects. I highly recommend you listen to his previous releases to understand this sudden shift. If you’ve read my articles before you understand I’m a huge fan of artists that don’t limit themselves to a secluded genre. So when I hear Isaacnathanielxx, who presents a recognizable and unique persona with their first album, change the tone in such a fresh and exciting way while not losing their personality I get excited. Essentially, he’s trying to find his sound. The guitars, done by the man himself, are heavy and generate a gloomy scene paired with Frank Ducati on drums. While the drums are hard-hitting, they are used sparingly. Almost as accents. I assume as to not complicate the track more than it needed to be, as I think Isaacnathanielxx wanted a sound that is very raw and vulnerable. Which isn’t different from his previous works, it’s a different type of vulnerability that he’s showing us here. His lyrics stay similar to the tones of Tangerine, however, there’s this growth that is painfully presented. There’s more anger, there’s more resentment. Look at “Your Car”, a very slow but beautiful song that has Isaacnathanielxx hitting these drawn-out notes while lo-fi drums present a soft atmosphere for the listener to get lost into. Much different from “Rot” which is much more upfront and in your face. A growth and a good sounding one is shown just in this single alone. This is a pivotal moment in Isaacnathanielxx’s discography, I hope he continues to explore and find his sound. I’m hyped for a whole EP or even an album sounding like this single. My only gripe is that this song isn’t longer.
