The young, Bakersfield residing, multi-instrumentalist that is Junior Mesa delivers the EP his small, but quickly growing, fan base has been craving. This EP is likely to be met with only one real complaint by said fan base- that they weren’t blessed with more music.
Peace is Mesa’s debut EP which spans six tracks, two of which (3AM and All or Nothin) were released as part of the marketing roll-out leading up to this project. Prior to delving into the creative qualities which this EP possesses, the level of polish present on this record needs to be applauded. This well put together composition is likely due to Mesa partnering with Joseph Messina Doerning for the entirety of Peace’s mixing process, however, this EP was wholly a group effort as a few other hands are credited with helping bring this project to life.
Peace, from beginning to end, oozes a captivating, lo-fi, euphoric sound into its listener’s ears. Junior Mesa’s light and flowing voice eases the mind and guides it through the wavy assembly of live instrumentals. This level of production is best-enjoyed top to bottom which Junior seems to know. The order in which Mesa aligned the EP’s track-list creates a seamless melting of sound while the songs transition into one another. Of the four new tracks featured on this EP, there is one that outlines the unique approach taken by Junior Mesa when developing records- Far Out. Its blending of rock sub-genres can best be described as old meets new. While instrumentally being firmly grounded in traditional rock, its overall execution takes influences and elements of new school alternative and indie rock.
