Dood first off thanks for being patient with me and doing this still. First things first though, who did you text drunk? If one scrolls far down enough on your SoundCloud page they can see ‘Texts Drunk’ as your first upload- who was that about? You sounded hurt man.

Haaa I don’t think it was one specific person. More so just a few people I used as a muse. Everyone’s been there before so it was just me expressing that. I was fasho simpin tho.

If you could receive a drunk text from anybody in the world right now who would it be?

Selma Hayek. I can’t name one movie she been in but I just saw her on the TL lookin right.

Switching to a more serious topic- why did you start making music? I noticed ‘Texts Drunk’ is four years old. What incentivized you to begin making music? Was ‘Texts Drunk’ your first release period? Or is there some other low-key moniker out there other than AJ Bray you dropped music under?

A.J: My homeboy Tevon started making music first and he had a home set up and so one day I just wanted to try it out and I ended up liking it. Texts Drunk wasn’t my first release but it was probably in the first 15 songs I ever made. I had a mixtape out there called Sandcastles which was my first project but I doubt its still on the internet.

Switching to your background now- what’s San Antonio like? Did you grow up there? Or rather where are you from originally if not from San Antonio?

San Antonio is cool. It’s real diverse and there’s hella Mexicans and I’m really tapped into the Latinos. I been here since 2001 but my dad is military so I moved around a bit before that.

The reason I ask what San Antonio is like is that when many people think of hip-hop in Texas they usually point to Dallas or Houston. But as you’re a testament to it- there’s hip-hop in San Antonio? Is the community big there full of undiscovered? Or is it very much so underground with few good talents here and there?

A.J: “There is a hip-hop scene. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country so there is def a rap community. Pretty much everybody is underground but there’s a few good artists out here.

If you had to move anywhere else in the world other than San Antonio where would it be? Why?

A.J: “Japan. I wanna duck off and be a rapper over there. I feel like I would pop in Asia.”

Now switching back to music man. Recently you dropped ‘Fall in Love’ and before that ‘2 Cell Phones’ now, there’s a big difference in style between those two. Do you have a ‘genre’? Or do you kind of just make whatever you feel like making?

A.J: “No I don’t really think of genres like that. That’s why I don’t call myself a rapper because I don’t want to get put in a box of only making rap. If I hear music that inspires me in some way I start saying stuff and whatever happens happens.”

Who is ‘Fall in Love’ about?

A.J: “Weed. I had quit smoking and I wanted to fall in love with OG Kush again.“

Let’s say you’re going to be headlining on a massive festival- what would you demand to be on your rider?

A.J: “Water, organic throat-coat tea, and wingstop. Mango habanero all flats, Louisiana voodoo fries.”

Now the final question dood. Who is AJ Bray?

A.J: “The less famous version of Ray J.”
